CONSULTANT:
He is a seasoned metallurgist and heat treatment expert with over 24 years of experience, having also been the Head of the Heat Treatment Plant at National Engineering Industries (NBC Bearings). He has overseen one of India’s largest heat treatment setups, managing over 100 workmen and a wide range of furnaces including Chugai Ro, Holcroft, and Weinstroth systems, supporting complex processes like carburizing, induction hardening, annealing, and tempering. He brings deep technical and operational expertise across both in-house heat treatment and metallurgy functions, and has led initiatives on process optimization, supplier quality development, and failure analysis for critical bearing components.

ASSIGNMENT:
This project involved conducting expert interviews with professionals experienced in heat treatment processes within the automotive sector. The objective was to gather qualitative insights into the use of heat treatment oil in India, particularly as it related to the manufacturing of automotive components. The discussions explored product applications, treatment processes (in-house vs. outsourced), annual oil consumption, and supplier preferences.
OUTCOME:
The expert interview successfully captured in-depth qualitative insights into the use of heat treatment oil in the Indian automotive component manufacturing sector. The expert provided detailed inputs on:
-The top automotive components that require heat treatment oil and their relative contribution to overall consumption
-Annual usage volumes, including a breakdown between hot and cold oil
-Preferred brands of heat treatment oil used in production
-Procurement practices, including whether oil is sourced directly from manufacturers or through distributors
The interview helped clarify operational practices, supplier preferences, and usage patterns, offering valuable context for understanding current trends and decision-making drivers within the sector.
